Brazil's growing medicinal cannabis market
Brazil's medicinal cannabis market is set to expand by 22 percent this year, reaching a valuation of BRL 852 million (USD 142 million), according to a new report from market intelligence firm Kaya Mind.
Patient boom. Around 672 000 patients in Brazil used cannabis-based products this year, a 50 percent increase from 2023. Nearly half accessed these products through legal import authorizations, primarily in the form of oils, gummies, and creams.
State of play. Fewer than one third of patients purchase cannabis products at pharmacies, where options are usually limited and prices significantly higher than imported alternatives. There are only about a dozen companies authorized to sell cannabis products in Brazil.
Family associations, often led by parents of young children in various health conditions, have been instrumental in pushing the needle on the country's stance on medicinal cannabis.
