Canada’s cannabis industry contributed nearly $11.6 billion to Canada’s GDP in 2025, led by the cultivation and processing side of the industry.
Licensed cannabis producers contributed $10.647 billion in 2025, while licensed cannabis retailers contributed another $946 million. Both sides of the sector continue to show annual growth, with the production side’s contribution to Canada’s GDP increasing by 31% from 2024, while the contribution of licensed retailers increased by 5%.
Cannabis production’s $10.647 billion contribution to Canada’s GDP in 2025 was 50% of the total value of all other crop production in Canada (not counting cannabis, greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production), which amounted to $21.189 billion.
Wineries, distilleries, and breweries combined contributed $3.25 billion in 2025, about one third of the contribution of licensed cannabis producers.
Licensed cannabis production contributed more than industries such as air transportation, community colleges and CEGEP’s, gas stations and fuel vendors, employment services, plastic and rubber product manufacturing, rail transportation, motor vehicle parts manufacturing, meat product manufacturing, and pipeline transportation of natural gas, among many others.
