Cannabis cultivation authorized under license ranks among the main cultivations in QuebecEconomy

AGRICULTURAL REVENUES AND LICENSED CANNABIS GROWING

Cannabis cultivation authorized under license has developed since 2018. Having generated agricultural sales of $366 million in 2020, it is one of the main crops in Quebec. This crop contributed to the growth of agricultural sales in Quebec between 2018 and 2020. Nevertheless, the information available indicates that it was not a major factor in the improvement, during this period, of the profitability of the whole agricultural sector in Quebec. Moreover, according to the partial data available for the year 2021, agricultural sales from cannabis may have peaked, or even decreased, last year in Quebec.

CANNABIS GROWING AUTHORIZED UNDER LICENSE RANKED AMONG THE LEADING CULTURES IN QUEBEC

Following the legalization in the year 2018 of the use of cannabis for recreational purposes, the cultivation of cannabis authorized under license has developed rapidly. Thanks to farm cash receipts of $366 million, cannabis became one of the five main agricultural crops in Quebec in 2020. For your information, its receipts were $26 million in 2018.
